Welcome to the Northern Electric Bowling Club Web Site.

Northern Electric Bowling Club

The club was founded in 1937 as part of the sports and recreational section of the North Eastern Electricity Board (NEEB), as was known as the North Eastern Electricity Recreation Club (NEERC). It was setup for NEEB workers, so that they could enjoy and participate in sporting and social events. The NEERC had various different sports sections including football, tennis, table tennis, cricket, and had its own sports ground located at Kings Road in Wallsend.

In the early 1990s, the North Eastern Electricity Board was part of a national privatisation program which saw the company name change to Northern Electric. The recreation club also changed its name.

With a drop in number of workers using the sports and social facilities, the club decided to open membership to the public, allowing anyone who did not work for Northern Electric could use their facilities.

In 1997, with the closure of the sports ground at Kings Road, the club was forced to relocate. The club moved to their current premises at Blue Flames Sports Club, based at Benton, where we share the facilities along with Health & Security Bowling Club and Blue Flames Veterans Bowling Club.

Northern Electric Bowling Club are proud affiliate members of both the Northumberland County Bowling Association and the English Bowling Association.
